I encourage my students to conduct research outside of their lessons, in order for them to learn as much as possible about the history of their instrument, as well as the genre and style in which they are performing. I aid them with this research by providing introductory resources, eventually leading them towards general music databases. To start, I like to have students use the Beginner Rubank Method Book (the blue book) and work through this to get the basics down.
