My experience in teaching is very wide and involves many different things. I have been teaching for 8 years private trombone lessons, but in the past year I have learned the trumpet as a part of an internship I was a part of and learned to teach trumpet to beginning students as well. I also am very capable of teaching the other low brass instruments such as the euphonium and the tuba. Read More

I have taught trombone to all levels for over ten years. I worked with students in North Carolina and Chicago, and have taught trombone and music theory I like to give listening assignments as well, as it has been shown that students develop better technique when the music they practice what they are listening to. It also develops a historical understanding of the instrument, music, and musicians. My real world experience ranging from orchestras to dive bars. Read More

My methods are the ones that works more for the student. For some reason some methods work better with certain people. One method can be tedious for a student and easy and fun for another. Hal Leonard's can be a good tool. I can use to many different books. Also I can write down specific exercises special for the student. Some times a student can learn faster without a book. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

I always vary my teaching methods to accomodate each of my student's needs. However, my lesson format stays fundamentally the same. I always begin with some mouthpiece buzzing, which incorporates ear-training, then move to rhythm exercises, scales and technical studies, method book, and any other music the student is working on at the time. Most beginning students will start out with Book 1 of a standard method book; I recommend the Standard of Excellence series. Read More

One of the pillars of learning that I hold to from my own experience as a private lesson student is the pursuit of excellence. I have been teaching individual lessons consistently for the last 8 years, and in that time I have learned that no two students are alike. I understand that each student requires my individual attention and focus and through that focus I make it a priority to learn how my student learns in order to provide the best, most fun experience they can have learning music and developing their skills.
