I am a passionate music teacher who believes that music is truly a universal language, shared by all cultures the world over and one of the best characteristics of our humanity. I grew up singing in my family, singing in the church choir and caroling with my family at Christmas, enthusiastically sharing my musical abilities with others. I have sung under the batons of John Alexander, Dale Warland, and Bobby McFarren and premiered music by composers Phillip Glass and Eric Whitacre- All of these music experiences helped to mold me into a professional teacher and musician who cherishes her abilities and excels at sharing it with her students. My method of teaching is to start students with a strong foundation of buzzing and making characteristic sounds on the horn. This includes buzzing with and without the mouthpiece. Also, my students must be able to read music. Reading music is very important to me, having the students be musically literate with a decent tone will take a student far in their musical career. Any beginning method book will be great such as, Tradition of Excellence or one of the Essential books as long as the student gets practice reading. Read More

1My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet
I teach piano classically by reading music and patterns. As we progress, sometimes the student gets disinterested. At that point, I introduce the chord method as well as the number system- having them play certain progressions as I prompt them to play. My teaching technique for vocal students are as follows: I find out what their forte is vocally and find out what key they sing a particular song in. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I was in my first musical production and began playing the piano at five years old. I then started voice lessons around age eight. This was all my mother's doing, as she noticed my interest and love for music at an early age. Because of this, music has always been a huge part of my life, and my decision to study music and become a professional musician simply seemed like the natural path for me to take. I have wanted to be a professional singer for as long as I can remember. Music has been the one passion in my life that I know will never fade.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
In addition to singing, I also enjoy playing the piano and ukulele. My mother put me in piano lessons at five years old. Although this is not my primary instrument, the piano is extremely helpful to vocalists so we can play along with vocal exercises, learn melody or harmony lines with sheet music, or even to accompany ourselves during practice time or show time onstage. I am self-taught on the ukulele and enjoy playing for leisure and creative purposes. As a songwriter, I use both the piano and the ukulele to write my own material as well.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The most amazing and difficult thing about being a singer is that our body IS our instrument. I believe that the voice is never truly mastered because our body and our voice is always changing. Being a vocalists requires constant care and attention to assure that we are not being damaging to our vocal chords. This is why it is important to always warm up the voice and practice healthy singing techniques to ensure a long and lasting career. Singers that work to know and understand their voice are those that will be known as masters.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
When I was in second grade, I vividly remember going to my very first concert: Shania Twain. We had amazing seats and I knew every word to every song. It was quite possibly the most exciting and fulfilling experience for me so far, at such a young age. In that moment of watching my idol onstage, I decided that I wanted to make audiences feel the way I felt. I knew then that I wanted to sing and perform and to entertain. In the years since then, my love for singing and performing has only grown stronger and I couldn't imagine my life outside of this industry.
