My teaching style is very modern. I like to add the use of electronics to aid in the devlopment of players such as recordings, tuners, video, and other musical gadgets. I find that with music technology growth is exponential. I highly encourage my students, and there is no better feeling than to see one's eyes light and get excited about playing trumpet.I could literally talk for hours about playing my trumpet. Read More

I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my school studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the instruments and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Instruments: Voice
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I was in my first musical production and began playing the piano at five years old. I then started voice lessons around age eight. This was all my mother's doing, as she noticed my interest and love for music at an early age. Because of this, music has always been a huge part of my life, and my decision to study music and become a professional musician simply seemed like the natural path for me to take. I have wanted to be a professional singer for as long as I can remember. Music has been the one passion in my life that I know will never fade.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
In addition to singing, I also enjoy playing the piano and ukulele. My mother put me in piano lessons at five years old. Although this is not my primary instrument, the piano is extremely helpful to vocalists so we can play along with vocal exercises, learn melody or harmony lines with sheet music, or even to accompany ourselves during practice time or show time onstage. I am self-taught on the ukulele and enjoy playing for leisure and creative purposes. As a songwriter, I use both the piano and the ukulele to write my own material as well.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The most amazing and difficult thing about being a singer is that our body IS our instrument. I believe that the voice is never truly mastered because our body and our voice is always changing. Being a vocalists requires constant care and attention to assure that we are not being damaging to our vocal chords. This is why it is important to always warm up the voice and practice healthy singing techniques to ensure a long and lasting career. Singers that work to know and understand their voice are those that will be known as masters.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
When I was in second grade, I vividly remember going to my very first concert: Shania Twain. We had amazing seats and I knew every word to every song. It was quite possibly the most exciting and fulfilling experience for me so far, at such a young age. In that moment of watching my idol onstage, I decided that I wanted to make audiences feel the way I felt. I knew then that I wanted to sing and perform and to entertain. In the years since then, my love for singing and performing has only grown stronger and I couldn't imagine my life outside of this industry.
