So I did. I also engaged with a Masters program at Hunter which I enjoyed and definitely improved my skills as a teacher in the Fall of 2009. Ultimately, I did not stay in that program because I was already teaching so much in a so many different settings. In short, I wanted to put all of my energy and focus into actual teaching rather than the formality of a Master's or state certification. Read More

Admittedly limited, my teaching experience started when I was in High School when I became the marching Band's trumpet section leader. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with otherswatching people grow in their musicianship is an incredible reward for me and I'd love to experience it more in my life! In college, I once again assumed the role of student and absorbed everything that I could. Now that I am graduate, I am very ready to share that with those who would have it. Read More

With beginning students, I start with the fundamentals of the instrument, including embouchure and finger technique, as well as the ability to breathe properly, which is fundamental to playing any wind instrument.  I also introduce beginning students to basic musical concepts, such as reading music, and tailor the musical selection to their tastes or to whatever group they are playing in, most often a school band class.  For more advanced students, I observe what areas the student needs the most work in and tailor the lessons specifically to dealing with those areas, as well as catering to their individual musical tastes. Each student is unique and requires a customized approach to realize their goals. I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to students where they all play the same exercises, etudes, etc. I help students find what works for them, often times we create our own methods or modify existing ones to suit the needs of the pupil. I believe a solid foundation in the fundamentals of music can be very helpful, familiarity with music theory/terminology/notation. Read More

I began teaching privately in 2012 during my undergraduate studies. I taught in both private and ensemble settings. I also, spent time teaching music theory in a classroom setting. I treat practicing the trumpet as if it is a part of the student's daily school curriculum so it does not upset the students daily life. I give students progressive weekly goals so that they can consistently build and learn while having fun. Read More

When I see a smile on someone's face in the presence of a musical accomplishment, the spiritual reward for that service is something I live for! To be able to help a student attain their goals requires a flexible teaching style, that can cater to every type of person. Positive affirmations are a key ingredient to helping a student feel good about they mile stones, but remaining realistic for the student at the same time allows them to make progress at their own pace, and feel good about it nonetheless. I've been teaching in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years, teaching students from ages 4 - 92 (yes, really! 92!). Levels range from beginning to professional, with advanced students having won scholarships and awards. I encourage all of my students to learn the language of music; to learn about their instrument and the best means of expression using that instrument.  For the past 8 years, lessons have been supplemented with an annual holiday recital where students have the opportunity to perform, which is an important part of the learning process! Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
