I have been teaching Prek- 8th Grade general music, choir, drama and instrumental lessons for the past 5 years. I am a 2009 graduate of Rutgers University with a BA in Music and a 2011 graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University with an MA in Music Education. Based on the strength and weakness of a students skill, a customized extracts from several different method/etude books such as Physical Approach by Gordon, Cornet Method by Beeler, Practical Studies by Getchell and etc. will be used. For example, if a student excels in range but needs an improvement in articulation, effective practice pieces for articulation will be extracted from various method/etude books for enhancement. For trumpet students I initially provide my own material, based on the exercises which I have found to be beneficial in my own playing. Early on, I'll ask most students to play a recording of one of their favorite songs, which we'll use to improvise to as well as for ear-training purposes.
