For beginning students, I start with the "I Can Read Music" and Suzuki Book 1. I am not a certified Suzuki teacher, nor do I teach in sync with the Suzuki style, but I do use the Suzuki book repertoire as I like the progression of ideas presented in the series. For middle school and high school students, I often work on all-district and all-state audition repertoire, prepare the students for school orchestra playing exams, or help them with tricky spots in their school orchestra pieces. The experience I had started with was a community center in an underprivileged area of Kansas city in 1973 as a Senior in High School and extended to many retail establishments of the Kansas city metro and beyond. I have also taught private lessons in my residence and in homes of many students during the pandemic. For beginners I use a method book for learning how to read music and learn music theory.  Once the basics are attained I introduce scales and etudes to build on the technical aspects of playing the instrument.  Solo books are also added to the repertoire for the student so that they can use everything they have learned thus far and express that in a piece of music. In 2006, I began my orchestral career at the age of 18 with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. I will always remember the feelings of inspiration, anxiousness, and joy when he walked into the concert hall the first time. Since then, I have enjoyed performing in many orchestras including the Kinnor Philharmonic, the Southeast Kansas Symphony, the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra, and the Topeka Symphony. Recently I have begun performing with SoNA, the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kansas City Baroque Consortium, and the Arkansas Symphony. Read More
