My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

Instruments: Violin Viola

For beginner students, I start with Hal Leonard's "Essential Elements for Strings" Book 1. This book is not only great for learning the fundamentals of the instrument (such as the names of the parts of the instrument, how to hold the instrument, etc.) but it also the best book I have found to teach beginning students how to read music on the violin and viola. For more advanced students, I like to stick with a formula of three things: scales (two-three octaves), an etude (a piece used to focus on a specific technique), and solo repertoire. Read More

I begin with developing sheet music literacy in my students right off the bat if they have no experience in reading music. I believe music literacy is one of the most important aspects of learning an instrument. I've always said, "not being able to read sheet music is like trying to be a writer who can't read, it makes no sense". I also begin with teaching proper form. Meaning how to hold the instrument and how to use proper technique. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle

I find that my teaching style is focused on harboring curiosity of music for the beginner student. It brings me joy to see a student go above and beyond because they research more to what I offer them on the page to help enrich their playing. I ask students what they most would like to work on or accomplish and help them set realistic goals with skill building exercises to practice. Read More

This is why I feel in complete understanding with the philosophy of this program, and with the mission that I have as a violin teacher immersed in the community. I would feel very honored and proud to be able to help develop your program. 2- My experience as an educator has been to be able to build a system of values through the musical practice such as will, discipline, responsibility, self-criticism, and team work, which are the benefits of ensemble playing, orchestral practice, or being part of a musical project. Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola

As an avid music instructor of three different instruments, I have a very diverse teaching background that encompasses approximately six years of cumulative musical training to students of all ages. As a patient and understanding teacher, I have worked with students with Asperger's syndrome as well as students with severe ADHD.  In my lessons, I emphasize consistent practice that is paired with consistent positive and encouraging feedback so that my students truly learn to grow not only as musicians, but as individuals. Instruments: Guitar Voice Violin Cello Viola Fiddle Double Bass Music Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar

For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More
