My teaching experience is quite varied. I've taught young children as a member of Mimi Zweig's pedagogy classes, and I currently teach group classes to 3rd-5th graders here in NYC. I've taught chamber music to teenagers in Indiana University's Summer String Academy and to adult learners in Montreal. Before anything, I find out what the goal of the lesson is. I always want to know what the students want, so I can plan around them. The lesson will always be about the student! After discussing the goal of the lesson, we will find repertoire, etudes, or other materials that either benefit the student technically, or will simply be enjoyable to the student. Since the goal of the student can either be anything, including playing professional recitals, or simply playing a Taylor Swift song from the radio, my priority will be that the student is enjoying their craft. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I began teaching in 2011 and have been consistently teaching since then. I began teaching in Cleveland, and eventually grew my studio to 60 students. This was a lot to handle, but I loved every second of it. Seeing and being a part of a student's progress is one of the most rewarding things I have experienced in my life. I am very patient and encouraging with my students because I know firsthand that playing the violin and piano is extremely difficult. Progress is not only dependent on the student doing their part, but it is also my responsibility to instruct in a way tailored towards each of my student's individual needs.
