I have been teaching music since about 1999 and during that time have had students of different ages and walks of life. I tailor each lesson according to the student's abilities or interests, and emphasize learning proper practicing techniques, as well as music theory. Lessons should be fun and use different methods or games to make the time enjoyable. As a multi instrumentalist, I've been able to see music instruction through several lenses which is useful in drawing a musical picture for students. Read More

My teaching is heavily influenced with my background and experience with the Suzuki method, particularly pertaining to listening, repetition, and immersion. Music is something to practice as if learning another language, as it is another form of expression! Although I use Suzuki books and repertoire in my lessons, I structure and customize lessons plans, tailoring to each individual student. I also like to have students pick something that they want to learn, whether it be a theme from "Lord of the Rings" or "Hoedown", in order to retain intrinsic motivation. Read More

I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. I am qualified to teach all the way through Suzuki book 10 if the student prefers a more classical approach. Ear training is fundamental in my approach to all instruments and styles. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in college as a side job, but due to touring with orchestras I was unable to truly develop my own studio. I also volunteer taught students from low-income families through the Azusa Pacific Conservatory for two years. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, I took over a former teacher's studio of 20+ students while he toured in Europe. I have been working in National Parks for the past 3 years and have always brought my instruments with me. Read More

I am a fan of the Suzuki method for beginning Violin students. It is the way I learned, so I am familiar with it. I do think it is important for students to have some say in what they learn. It is important for young students to have fun during the learning process. I like to throw in some current music that is familiar to the student. I also find it important to set goals. Read More

When I began my Master's degree in composition at the University of New Mexico, I concurrently worked as a private tutor for violin, music theory, and composition. I ultimately proceeded with my doctoral work in composition, first at UCLA, where I won two composition competitions in two consecutive years, and then completed at Claremont Graduate University, where I was awarded a DMA degree in composition. My life during all these years has been devoted to music as a instructor of the violin, composition, and music theory while also composing music for myself. Read More
