For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. In my lessons knowing scales and arpeggios will be important. I also teach about keys and time signatures early on.
