I approach music education in a practical way, what I mean with this is that I teach songs that my students like so they enjoy what they are learning. I encourage them to listen different kinds of music too so they can understand what music really is about. For Beginners and Intermediate students, I teach them songs that the want to learn and then I relate this songs to music theory, I teach them how to practice and how to learn technical parts of the instruments from the songs that they like. I enjoy watching students progress and improve. It brings joy to them and myself. Playing guitar or bass for me is a form of art therapy/meditation. It's a place where one can lose themselves and activate/stimulate the brain unlike any other engagement as the brain is simultaneously multi-tasking when playing an instrument. I've helped clients get past obstacles in their abilities and philosophy about the guitar/bass and music in general. Read More

I am an intuitive teacher: I have learned how to observe my students, their moods, their energy levels, and adjust my lesson plan on the fly. For instance, one student has ADHD, which I manage by injecting exciting new rhythms for him to mimic when I see his attention wander. I then harness that renewed focus towards the original goal of the lesson, whether it’s learning a new time signature or a complex cross-rhythm. Read More

Each year after that, I got a new instrument and taught myself how to play it. I got the John Phillip Sousa award for playing trumpet in my high school orchestras. I love playing music in bands and I am always consistently playing music on a daily basis. I would love to be able to teach others how I taught myself music and I hope that other people can be as good as me and make the world more of a musical place. Read More

I use guitar tablature as the main method for music reading. I've found its the simplest and quickest way to get the student playing melodies and songs on the first day. After a quick crash course in how to read tablature, we shift into how reading it will translate to playing so that the student gains the practical application of tablature. With kids, starting off with nursery rhyme melodies is the easiest way to have them recognize melodies they are playing themselves. Read More

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Yes my family is very musical. Dad is a guitarist and singer in some very popular local wedding bands and mom was a singer in bands. My older bro is a drummer and singer and got me out playing full time when I was 13 years old. They all continue to play part time.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
Well it started from the moment I watched my dad play at a fair and then he told me if I practice I could get up and play along the next year I did.
I played with a buddy in highschool but only play a few talent shows and a few parties. But my bro was playing out and needed a full in when I was 13 I learned 42 songs the night before his show and played with him and it turned into my career
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
So I’m a rocker and I love Deep Purple my favorite song is Burn, it’s full of everything a guitarist loves, tone, riffs, scales great playing overall.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I started playing the other instruments for recording purpose res and or live use.
They are somewhere similar to my main instrument the guitar so it came along quick
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
Favorite style of music is classic Rock. All the songs are timeless. Nothing compares to it. So many hits. Great playing & real musicians playing everything on the recordings.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
Trainer or something in the art world. Always been and artist since I’ve been a kid. The trainer would be from I love jogging. And it helps me stay in shape on stage and overall health.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’ve played for a talent show in 8th grade and won, than everyone after and won. I’ve played for pizza and played and played and accomplished playing concerts halls from 200 seats to 20,000 seats
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes my one student won solo awards in jazz band in school & he now just got accepted to Berkeley School of Music. He was well driven.
I’ve had a few other like that but this was most recent.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Well you can always learn. So much out their on the instrument. Different styles, techniques, tones, technology. So so it alll keeps you interested and working hard and feel accomplished at the end of the day.
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I have used a guitar book
But kinda made my own out of it.
Found over the years kids get bored easy. So I use parts of it at a time. And also want know what they are interested in and focus on that a bit.
What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I like to start off warming up, moving up and down the neck.
Than review some things from the week before, if they practiced it’ll go by fast. Than move on to the new lesson
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
as long as you put in 20 mins daily you with see results. If not you won’t see any and forget it all most likely. I want it fun but serious. Not super serious or you’ll get bored.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Lots of children are undecided I like to try a lesson first to see if they pick up and have interest I’m not afraid to tell the parents that the child isn’t interested
When will I start to see results?
The first day you will learn so much but I’ll review it all over and over again.
You will be able to play a few chords by the time you leave the first lesson
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Honestly my dad, I used to sit on his amp at various gigs and practices and realized that what I wanted to do.
It’s a great stress reliever, and using your abilities. It kept out of trouble when I was a youngster
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
3 reasons
1 my dad
2 KISS (Ace Frehley)
3 i was born blind and didn’t play sports or anything like that, this really took over my life, and I made a career out of it.
