I have extensive practical experience in helping young students develop their foundational piano skills, music styles as well as creative endeavors, which have been a primary focus of my pedagogic activities. Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. I'm a passionate violin teacher and performer. I taught in the Washington DC area for more than 5 years, and currently have been teaching in the Boston area for a year. Ive been teaching violin students for the past 9 years. Currently, Im a second year graduate student in violin performance at the New England Conservatory, and I will be receiving my Masters degree in May 2020. I finished my undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, where I received a Bachelor of Music in violin performance, alongside with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Although I do not teach Suzuki method, I do like to use the Suzuki method books as a resource for teaching younger students. The first piece my school-aged students learn will always be one that they know the tune to already: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, for example. Once students are comfortable in holding and using the violin, I introduce a little bit of note reading at each lesson. For adult students, understanding of the instrument will come much faster, so I love getting my students to play music with which they can focus on making a beatiful sound while still learning the fundamentals. I want my students to have fun and be able to be inspired to learn and create. I know that everyone learns their way and I do believe myself accommodating and understanding. Learning to read, write, and play music is essentially learning another language and having taught languages for several years, I know people move at different paces. I encourage my students to maintain a detailed practice log, and to explore and create during daily practices whilst also working towards goals established during our sessions. Read More
