I have worked with a very wide range of students of all levels and ages from three year old beginners to adult learners and everything in between! I do my best to make lessons fun and interesting for each student by tailoring the lessons to their needs and interests - in addition to classical music I am happy to incoporate music from other genres too. My goal is to show every student that they are capable of finding joy in making music. Read More

In 2014, I began teaching students privately. I taught multiple students of different ages, with a range from early childhood to late adulthood. Most of my students were beginners, and we worked together for over a year. By the end of our time together, they were able to play fairly advanced music for the time they had been playing, such as "La Folia" by Corelli and "Jesu, the Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach. So I set out on a journey to answer those questions. I devoted my life to learning music, moved to Bellingham to study music and composition at WWU, studying the science and art of playing music with emotion, and writing music that makes my audience feel what I want them to feel. In-between now and then, my music career took a lot of twists and turns, ups and downs, and ins and outs. Read More

My favorite thing about teaching is seeing that spark of understanding as students learn new things and grow a love for making music. My lesson style is very flexible and adaptable, and I like to have my student's input on what they would like to play. Lessons progress at your own pace and should be challenging in a very fun way. Everyone is different when it comes to musical taste and goals, and it's very fun to meet new people and find what inspires them. Read More

For younger students who are beginning, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. This book has great materials for setting up the violin and bow hold, reading notes, rhythm and other musical markings, and introducing basic music theory such as time and key signatures. Also, this book incorporates the foundation of all musical learning, scales and arpeggios, into fun exercises that are enjoyable for every student. For older students who have more experience, I have a range of etudes from Sevcik to Kreutzer that can futher develop and solidify a good foundation of technique. For musical training, I use solo repertoire from Suzuki and other sources that are appropriate for each student's level so that he/she can be healthily challenged musically and technically while feeling accomplished during performances. My motto is my students create their own lesson. I formulate lesson plans off of the styles of music you are most interested in. If my student has a more "just for fun" attitude, the lesson will inevitably be a more light hearted feel. If the student would like to focus on more technicalities, that as well is a different approach. However, I do have a more structured plan for younger students. Read More

I try to teach to the personality, strengths, and needs of each individual student: one size does not fit all when it comes to playing instruments! I stress correct posture and technique as a means to an end, which is the ability to progress and enjoy playing. I have taught many students over a period of years--often between 7 and 10+ years. I try to teach in a progressive way with an end goal in mind, whilekeeping them motivated and engaged andcreating opportunities to perform, succeed, and have fun along the way. Read More
