I am a musician originally from Mexico, I have performed in Latin america and Europe. I am currently Principal viola with Symphony of the Americas and part of the Con Brio Quartet. Besides teaching and performing in orchestra I am also very active as a recitalist and chamber musician. For beginning students, I teach them the basics first, and then simple and fun pieces that they can master.  For intermediate students, I start them on method books and more advanced techniques.  With advanced students, I help them refine their playing and personalize each piece that they learn. This makes it far more enjoyable for The student, as well as more relevant. My initial lessons for all ages and levels begin with discussing expectations, motivations, and past experiences with music. Lessons should feel engaging fun, and productive. New players will learn fun ways to read music, feet positions, and hand exercises. Once a foundation is established, we'll learn more advanced skills and solo material. Beginners and intermediate players will always encounter scales and etudes as well as solo material just challenging enough to learn something new and fun enough they'll practice until they rock it. For beginning students in any genre, I begin with learning songs. Classical, jazz, bluegrass, and rock are more easily understood when you spend time playing the music with someone else. Repertoire is chosen with the understanding that fundamentals are key to life long participation and students find positive success when they are able to then share a completed work with their friends and family (think holiday get-togethers!)
