For beginning students, I initially focus on their setup and how to hold the instrument properly. Having this solid foundation helps in the future to avoid injuries and negative habits. After that, I use the Essential Elements books and Suzuki method books as a guideline with supplemental materials. At this point I would also begin introducing solo repertoire appropriate for a first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my teaching according to their level of interest, keeping lessons engaging and fun. Many times that includes playing fiddle tunes, which is very exciting to me too, since I have been involved in Irish culture since I was young. Read More

Since then I have been employed at over 4 different studios, and I still teach privately. It is my main source of income and my life's passion. I encourage all of my students to pursue performance opportunities, anything from playing for family in the basement to big recitals with huge crowds. Performing and sharing art is one of the best parts of being a musician, and it isn't nearly emphasized enough in many schools of educational thought. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate where I would teach and mentor incoming freshman placed in our studio. During the summers I would teach locally and fill in for past mentors who were on tour. This allowed me the fortune of teaching both beginners and advanced students. I strongly recommend consistent practice as I firmly believe an hour a day far out performs 5-7 on one day. A students growth is mostly contributed to ones own passion and discipline however as long as the student is willing to learn, then I am willing to help nurture their devotion and maturity to allow them to become as good of a instrumentalist that they wish to become. My musical expereince is mostly classical, beginning at around age 8. Since then, I have studied with several teachers of the New Jersey Symphony as well as graduates of the Juliard School in New York. In the summer of 2011, I traveled to Italy where I continued my study of Italian language, art and music before graduating in the Spring of 2012. While my muscial expereince is largely classical, I still strive to cover as many styles and genres of music, and am alwas willing to learn the muscial preferences of my students in order to provide the most meaningful lesson possible Read More

I first began teaching in High School, by providing extra tutoring sessions to some my instructor's other younger students. This provided me with a great opportunity to develop my approach for teaching strong fundamentals in a fun way with beginners and younger students. Growing up in the New York public school system, I was a part of the annual New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) music festivals. Participation in these festivals involves performing a solo audition, which then grants access to perform with the All-County and All-State orchestras. Read More

I base my lessons around the student, not a cookie cutter method. I look for three crieteria: a student's interests, ability level, and time they have to practice. I am very interested in what the student thinks of the lessons, and ask for feedback frequently. I encourage them to bring their own ideas and songs into the lessons. I am very keen on review; if someone doesn't understand what we did last week, they won't progress to what we are doing now. Read More
