I have spent the last 5 years studying to become a great teacher! In December of 2017 I finished my degree in Music Education at Brigham Young University- Idaho, and in August I begin my Masters Degree in String Pedagogy at the University of New Mexico. I am very passionate about being sure my students gain skills through music education that will stay with them beyond what they study with me. I have taught through Musikalessons since 2004 and had taught in my own studio and private University settings for years before that. I have also taught elementary general music, 6 yrs; orchestra in elem, mid and high school, University String Project, community orcheatra (13 yrs); choir in Albuquerque Boy Choir (9 yrs), University chorus (8 yrs), public and parochial school choirs grades 2 thru 12 (12 years). Building a close relationship with the students and their parents is also important to me. Parents are encouraged to be present for the lesson but it is not a requirement. I find that when parents are present, keeping track of what needs to be practice can be much easier for the student. There is nothing that can replace the support of the students parents. I prefer to teach in my home but would be happy to consider traveling to you if that works better for you. Read More

Music lessons can incorporate a variety of approaches depending on student preference and abilities. Some students love to read notation. I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. I encourage these students to learn to read notation and to look at the notes when playing familiar pieces. For young children, I create short musical tunes they can read using colors. Read More
