Instruments: Violin Electric Violin Fiddle

It's all about awareness, listening and sharing a love of playing. I love to play with my students, but also acknowledge the intensity of sitting back, watching, listening and internalizing the student. I am keenly aware of time and intend to cover all that was given as the last lesson plan (home practice) while forming a new plan for the next lesson. I always include something akin to a new "trick" that is easy to remember and will give back satisfaction. Read More

I, myself, is a very passionate performer. My enthusiasm in music making is what kept me going all these years. and I believe it is the very thing that would motivate and encourage a student to practice and learn. As a teacher, I will prioritize finding a way for a student to love the instrument and music, introducing them to a wonderful world that they have not yet encountered. Learning the violin is an extremely hard process, like everything else in life, there is never a shortcut. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Trumpet Trombone

My methods vary for each instrument so I have given a basic outline of my techniques below: For beginning students who are children I start with the basics, how do you play this funny musical instrument! I have a few different books I turn to based on the student. For beginner adults I have a more technical approach to teaching the basics and will focus on what you really want to learn and get out of your lessons. Read More

Instruments: Violin Cello Viola

We'll be doing two septets for violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn by Adolphe Blanc and Franz Berwald. We just performed them 3 other times in MIllis, MA, Methuen, MA and Hamilton MA, Yes and in August we performed at the Plymouth library in Plymouth MA doing a different program. Our concerts were greatly received and we got standing ovations.. Chamber music is my favorite but I do play in many orchestras as well. Read More

Instruments: Violin

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instructions to their wants and needs. Read More

Instruments: Violin

I would approach teaching by making sure the student is comfortable with whatever i am showing them, and trying to adapt to whatever style makes them comfortable if necessary. Setting goals for the end of each lesson is important based on their skill level and how quickly they pick up the information. I will do whatever it takes to make sure the student is getting some sort of value from the lesson, and make every minute count. Read More

Keyboard Vs. Piano: What Exactly is the Difference?

...“keyboard,” pianos consist of just one instrument. The piano was invented in 1700 by an Italian instrument-maker named Christofori. The original piano was an instrument heavily based on a harpsichord. Harpsichords rely on a system of levers and pulleys that pluck strings while the piano uses a series of hammers that strike and dampen strings in a completely controlled manner. Harpsichords sound pingy, dull, and lifeless, while pianos sound expressive and alive. Pianos are one of the most dynamically powerful instruments on the planet, and they’ve shaped the way music has sounded for centuries after being invented.   Unlike synthesizers, pianos haven’t changed all that much after three long centuries.... Becoming a Music Teacher: A How To Guide

...begun.   4. Get Organized & Stay Focused! Once you are in school, the real work begins. Music education students have some of the heaviest course loads of anyone I know. Often you are carrying the load of a music performance student (either in an instrumental or vocal studio) as well as an education student, as well as music education specific courses. Because of this, many music education students take a full load for 4-5 years, not including student teaching. To make sure you swim rather than sink, get organized and stay focused! Odds are many of your colleagues will become ... Read More

Flute Embouchure: Developing Your Best Sound

...your hand. Experiment with expanding and tightening the focus of your air-stream as you feel it on your hand. When tight, your lips should form a small pinhole. As they expand, they should move to a more elliptical shape.   While doing this, you’ll also notice that the pressure of the air-stream changes as you change the size and shape of your embouchure. As your air-stream gets smaller, the pressure of the air will increase. When the air-stream is bigger, the pressure will decrease. This is important to note because a higher pressure and smaller embouchure will better support the higher ... Read More

7 Guidelines For Successful Music Lessons

...in a lesson can help you make quick and consistent progress. 7. Celebrate your successes. You’ve done it! You’ve nailed the song, finished the book, or finally hit that third octave on the scale. Take a moment to celebrate! You can share the music with your friends, post a video on youtube, or do a happy dance wherever you are. Mastering an instrument is a life-time pursuit, but every little victory is worth celebration! While there is always more to learn, it’s important to celebrate how far you’ve come with your instructor, your family, or your friends. Sharing the music, and the success, is half the ... Read More
