I truly believe that when students are nurtured and given a comfortable space they will excel as creating music and art is vulnerable and requires the student to let go.  I have been teaching in the Columbus area for 14 years.  I have studied piano and voice for 30 years performing and had experience auditioning for and performing in musical theater, opera, and contemporary settings. It would be my joy to see each and every one of my students become professional classical musicians. However, I know for most students, their instruments are purely hobbies. It is most important to me that each student is enjoying their time in their lessons and being motivated to practice and perform outside of lessons. I believe that while critique is crucial to improvement, acknowledging strengths and giving compliments is vital to strengthening a students self-esteem and getting them motivated to practice and thus perform well. For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically. I would love to find opportunities for students to perform their repertoire and show what they have learned whether that is a private recital for family and friends or a voice competition. Read More

I normally start out with the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures methods books for the piano students. This includes a lesson book and a theory book. The lesson book will teach the student the physical skill of playing piano by presenting them with leveled songs to learn. The theory book will focus more on the mechanics of music and playing and require some written work. These two methods work very well together to give the student a comprehensive experience with the piano. Read More
