Practice Makes Progress! My studio of aspiring musicians of all ages strives for the motto I came up with as an alternative to the popular, yet technically impossible and anxiety-inducing Practice Makes Perfect. I am a dedicated professional singer in the DC Metro area, and I operate Hannahs Music Studio as a way to share what I have learned through my many years of music studies and performances. I have had the opportunity of performing multiple operatic roles in Italy and San Marino, as well as during my Bachelor of Arts in Music degree for Vocal Performance at Luther College (2017), and during my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Opera at the University of North Texas (2019). My teaching style really depends on the student! Some want to learn for fun, others are studying for exams or college. As a result its really important for me to tailor my lessons towards each student and what they would like to work on. For some that could mean working on vocal technique, others working on music and repertoire. Im adept at adapting to each students individual talents and vocal needs and therefore its important that for that each student progresses at a pace that they are comfortable with. Read More

I choose to work step by step. Not to force them or pressure them on anything. As I mentioned above, having this balance between having fun, enyoing and learning how to be responsible and dedicated, is healthy and efficient! Important is to understand that to learn an instrument, you also need to practice, at least 30 min per day and not just only wanting to have the lesson, because the progress will be very minimal and slow, and the learning process will become very boring. I work to foster a love of music and a desire to excel in each of my students. I want them to practice because they love it and want to succeed! I also feel that it is important to be a well rounded musician, so we will focus on theory, sight reading, composition, musicianship, performance-practice, and other important and fun aspects of music. I believe that it is important to be grounded in a classical foundation (for both piano and voice students), but I also make sure to bring in pieces of the student's favorite style- which I find helps motivate them to practice and enjoy lessons even more. I see myself as a facilitator, helping students discover new elements of music and music theory and building upon those to create a greater understanding of reading and playing music both for piano and voice. Often i will model by playing a song first so that the student cannot not only hear what is sounds like but observe my technique, finger changes, dynamic ranges, tempo and so on. There are many elements to performing a piece besides just playing the correct notes! Read More

I'm a driven, passionate person who loves music. My goal in being a teacher is to bring that feeling of fun, satisfaction, and calm that I get from music to the generation or to anyone who wishes to learn. In 2018, I graduated with a degree in voice from Towson University where I had many wonderful opportunities to work with amazing faculty and colleagues. In April, I had the privilege to play the role of The Count in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, my first 4 act opera. Read More

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Doing what I feel I am called to do use my gift God gave me to make a positive difference in the world and make the world a happier place but spreading joy using my talents Singing for God Spreading his word to his people as a church cantor and the official parish committee singer for three churches of St Oscar Romero Parish. My HomeTown Parish.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It’s truly a part of who I am When I was a very very little kid my family told me I had perfect pitch as I sang and wrote songs around the house so I educated myself with their help getting me everything I needed and taking me to lessons because they are the most incredible people ever ! I knew it from then that was the only job I ever wanted and was ever gonna have. And I know I’m most people need other jobs but not me I refused to get any other job but the money I make from my music and my family helped me do that. I was always a dramatic performer. I always unlike the other kids was never nervous I was always excited I lived for the spotlight and the more people in the crowd made me do better and feel more alive and excited performing. Plus I like dress up. ????? This is simply who I am and what I am called by God to do I feel it with every fiber of my being. I will bring my gift of music and share it with the world. I’d enjoy the chance helping others do the same with their talents too. Music and Singing Completes me. It’s my purpose.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Trust Me You Will Know By Their Passion for Music………… If it’s in Their Heart then it will Show and when it comes out through song its beautiful….

When will I start to see results?
Everyone learns at their own pace so this is hard to foresee however the student will learn something new resulting in something new that they didn’t know before that’ll help them improve even more at the next upcoming steps that they can take home and practice on their own

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
1st I’d say Patience Next it’s okay to not get something the first time simply Try it again (But it is important to remember don’t overdo it pushing any notes in your chest voice)

Four Easy Breathing Exercises for Singing

...Did you know that a healthy start to your singing practice regimen doesn’t necessarily have to begin with any actual singing? One of the easiest ways to improve stamina and vocal comfort while singing is to incorporate breathing exercises for singing into your vocal warmups.   Below, I’ve outlined the who, what, when, where, why, and how of breathing exercises for singing. ...Jones   Carnival of the Animals was one of the only classical music-inspired cartoons by Chuck Jones for which Michael Maltese did not write the story; this plot came from Jones himself.   It was based on the musical work of the same name by Camille Saint-Saëns and poetry by Ogden Nash. CBS aired this episode during prime-time–an obvious nod to Chuck Jones’ loyal adult following.   Watch sections of it here:   Chuck Jones’ and Michael Maltese’s Classical Music Legacy   “Of course, these pieces can’t be fully appreciated when heard out of context, or in commercials and cartoons,” said Gadea. “But they ... Teaching Violin: Tips for New Teachers

...rehearsals, and disappointments in general.   How Will You Find Support? As mentioned earlier, teaching violin is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. Violin teachers need to have a support system in order to be at their best and to be prepared for their work. You may find that teaching in a music studio, with a group of music instructors, is just the thing. If you have several violin teachers together, you can trade tips or pinch-hit for days when someone is out with a cold, or has an official obligation that cannot be avoided (think jury duty). Sometimes, you may be the only music ... Read More

Again, a major question a songwriter now faces is how to narrow down the thousands of instrumentation choices available into a few usable ideas.   Melody   The melody section of popular music is the song’s leading role; the part of the song that people remember. Your song won’t go anywhere without a good melody, even if the rest of the sections are great. Think about it: when you remember your favorite songs, what comes to mind? It’s probably the melody line sung during the chorus. Well-known popular songs like the Happy Birthday song ... Read More
