I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with. I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists. For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques. I also really enjoy exposing students to styles, genres or artists that they might not be familiar with along with the history behind the music they're learning! Read More

In college, I taught a handful of beginning violin students. Throughout college and my years post grad, Ive taught private and group dance lessons and focus on technique and confidence. I apply the same concepts to my music lessons and love helping students discover their personal voice. I encourage regular practice and personal compositions. Every student is different and I am hopeful to find the system that works for each one. Read More

My philosophy is that the lessons should be personalised around the students needs and interests. For voice, I work on vocal technique with my students, and on how to apply it to whatever style they like. For piano, I like to work with the Alfred's piano books, gradually adding repertoire that matches their ability level, and can yet be fun. I have a few Faber and Alfred books for ideas of repertoire, but I also like to just let the student chose what songs they'd like to play, so that it's more interesting for the both of us! Read More

My experience learning music by ear, theory, intuition, and sheet music on many different instruments has given me a strong background to adapt to the needs of any student. So, regardless of skill level, I like to discuss any songs, artists, and styles that the student might be drawn to. Whether the student wants to focus on sheet music like Alfred Music or Hal Leonard, theory lessons and exercises, or develop their intuition and ear, I'm excited to cater the lesson plan to you. Typically, I favor using traditional curriculum for beginning students (Alfred, Faber, Bastian). As a student progresses we typically incorporate Clemeneti sonatinas and the students favorite pop/modern songs. When a student achieves an advanced level of difficulty curriculum is purchased depending on the student's goals, college aspirations, and learning objectives. I typically administer a Classical Method of education, whether in private lessons or the classroom. It is my hope that time in my classroom encourages dialectic conversation and reaps gains in every learning situation. Read More

I am a classical trained musician. I was brought up in Bloomington Indiana, the home of the no.1 rated music school in the States (by the teacher's association). Ever since I was 10, I was involved with the University music life. I had the fortune to study with Janos Starker - perhaps the greatest cello technician in the world! His playing style is comfortable, clean, natural, and free of tension problems. Read More

I believe that lessons should be fun! I had to overcome a lot of stage fright when I was a beginner, so it is important to me that the lesson environment is fun, low-pressure, and encouraging. I check in with my students frequently to see how they are feeling about trying new exercises and techniques, if they are understanding the skill I am teaching, and how they see themselves making progress.
