Hey there! My name's Dave and I am very passionate about music and through my playing the goal for me has been to inspire people. I doubted my musical abilities and compared myself a lot to others and quit music on several seasons whether that be learning a difficult song or comparing myself to my role model musicians. A family friend inspired me to keep playing and since then I've been writing, performing, and working as a musician. Read More

Lessons are custom depending on student goals and desired musical styles. Lessons begin at the piano with vocal warm-ups and vocalises for proper singing technique, followed by vocal exercises focusing on areas in need of strengthening. Time is also spent on breath work, posture, acting, language pronunciation and choreography, depending on the song/project. This is followed by working on pieces of music selected by both the student and I, tailored to the students needs and goals. Read More

I, Michael G. Turner, breathe through music. My love for music began at a very early age and I was blessed to realize, very soon, that it was my passion.I began performing at the age of 13 on clarinet, in voice, and on drums and percussion. Most of my early performance experience was obtained in church, school, and in my older brothers' Top 40 band. I hold an Associates in Music degree from Los Angeles City College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from California State University Northridge, a California State Teaching Credential, and I am currently the music teacher and director of bands at Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth California. I have been teaching voice, songwriting, and piano since I began college in 2013. I have taught both younger and older students alike, and I tailor my lessons to their needs and wants. I find that every student is unique in their journey with music and I do my very best to help them achieve attainable goals that we have set-up together, taking into account their age and their musical interests. Teaching style could easily be summaried and paraphrased with my above stated pedagogy! Teaching style changes from student to teacher. I enjoy trying to decipher what the student enjoys hearing, wants to learn, prior knowledge, and desires are. These help in my search to find the perfect style at which the student understands and enjoys the task at hand. Read More

My philosophy is that the lessons should be personalised around the students needs and interests. For voice, I work on vocal technique with my students, and on how to apply it to whatever style they like. For piano, I like to work with the Alfred's piano books, gradually adding repertoire that matches their ability level, and can yet be fun. I have a few Faber and Alfred books for ideas of repertoire, but I also like to just let the student chose what songs they'd like to play, so that it's more interesting for the both of us! Read More
