For intermediate students and adults who are beginners, I select from the Suzuki method or Hanon books combined with repertoire. I also like to find out the students' interests (classical, pop, musicals, and so forth) to select combinations of music that will be most engaging for them. I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music.
