For absolute beginner's I will spend the first few lessons just working on getting a sound out of the instrument and when ready, playing some easily recognized songs (like nursery rhymes), by ear to develop aural skills from the very start. All of my students will start with the Rubank methods of the appropriate level. For beginner and intermediate students, we will work out of classical repertoire books appropriate to the level. When it comes to teaching voice, there is no one way of doing so. Each child learns differently and each child has a different instrument, and it is most important that that be figured out first. I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with my students.
