My teaching style is both rigorous and positive. I believe that the best way to learn any skill is through hard work and persistence in a judgement-free, positive psychological environment. I work in a routine every lesson so that students understand the next step in the process. I make accommodations for each student depending on their personal goals, needs, and learning styles. No two students are the same, so no two lessons should be the same. Read More

I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I like the idea that the voice dances on the breath and is buoyed and protected by that technique. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords. Aside from being an active opera singer and performer I have had the privilege of being a teacher since I was 17 years old. I started teaching private voice students, choir classes, piano and Music theory. I enjoy helping my students explore all music genres including classical, folk, pop, jazz, rock and RB. I believe that music is capable of changing lives, teaches discipline, and gives light to the life of any person that experiences it. Read More

Voice lessons are for the growth and benefit of the student; therefore, my goal as a teacher is to push my students to be the best they can be. While I may use anecdotes of my own experience in lessons, I am helping my students to become future versions of themselves and not my own clones. While this will be challenging work for students, I always make time in a lesson for students to feel successful, as this will ensure future progress and provide satisfying closure. Read More

My studio is a place to sound bad. It's a place to make as many mistakes as possible. Your voice may crack, you may hate the way it sounds in your head, but good practice involves failure. If you are in my studio, you are here to work. Practice is not necessarily fun. Everyone wants to leave their first lesson belting for the rafters, but we won't go there until you're ready- it might only ingrain poor habits and set you up for failure down the road. Read More

For beginners (piano) , 5 years and above, Hal Leonard, John Thompson, play, rest, play the piano together, For vocal students, I start by listening first to any song that they would like to sing, or find a song that will fit according to his/ her voice and make singing fun (at the beginning) and less stressing. Overall I make sure that my student is happy after a session. I hold annual recitals because that's where is see the ultimate produce of a one year hard practice. Read More
