My teaching style focuses on what most interests the student and draws them to the particular instrument. We explore different song styles and different exercises that speak to each individual student. I also believe in regularly providing constructive criticism and encouragement for each student's accomplishments. The more you inspire your student, the more driven they become. I try to approach each student as an individual. Every student has their own level of enthusiasm, patience, willingness, and availability. My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate experience, where I vocal and music directed 6 student theater productions. This includes providing one-on-one vocal instruction for leads and ensemble members and teaching full vocal scores to ensembles of over 20. I was also the music director of my A Cappella group, so I have experience auditioning, training, and rehearsing a cappella singers. I am also a trained pianist and accompanist, so I provide tracks for students virtually and live accompaniment for in-person lessons and use these skills to provide piano lessons. Read More

Nothing is more important than the student enjoying themselves. I want to encourage my students' passion for music by allowing them to learn at their own pace. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement, I will never discourage a student to study music. Music is for everyone and should never be considered out of reach for anyone. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory. I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students. I am passionate about sharing my gift love of music with students of all ages, especially school aged children. Currently I teach privately as well as volunteer with an afterschool program.
