I began teaching my first piano student when I was 14 years old. I have since enjoyed teaching in many different ways. I've taught private students, homeschool choruses, pre-K-8th grade (using music curriculum that I created), 8th grade science students, large choirs of beautiful angelic children's voices, adult church choirs, youth and adult bands, gospel choirs, reading literacy students,and soldier medicshow to prepare for their responsibilities. My teaching experience started when I was in high school. Being a son of two teachers I was compelled to become a tutor. I was my first student. Teaching myself how to play the piano and gutiar. My father taught me methods of how to learn and thats what I use to teach. I gained more experience helping people write essays and do home work. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. We gradually increase the tempo over the next several weeks. Pieces like that will be rehearsed at the end of each lesson after working through a few passages in Alfreds book. At the beginning, I ask my adults what music theyre interested in learning. I like to gear my warmup exercises and cool down exercises towards that style and I always put aside a few minutes at the end to work on whatever music they desire. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding for me than the "lightbulb" moments. To see a student light up with excitement over the satisfaction of knowing he or she has been able to achieve or conquer a concept or a piece of music is so awesome for me.
