I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. I have been teaching students of all ages since 2010. I have been teaching both in my home studio and at the students home, I have also taught in Public Schools and in Music stores. My goal as a teacher is to get students excited about music and have them looking forward to our lessons together and inspire them to learn more and practice. I began teaching during the Summer in high school, mostly for kids I babysat. However, when my sister booked the national tour of The Sound of Music, my clientele expanded to include mostly Broadway kids. In the past couple years, my students have been seen on Broadway/tour in shows such as A Bronx Tale, School of Rock, and Anastasia. For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice.
