My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for singing/the instrument. I especially love teaching voice. I make goals and adjust to the pace of the student.  While I don't believe I am too strict a teacher, I am always trying to challenge students. Besides keeping them on track with practicing the fundamentals, I encourage students to discover how beautiful and fun music is.    I think my style is more learning music itself. Since I am a singer, piano player and composer, I think I more encourage my students to use their ears and to understand harmony and theory which very is useful for playing music with any instruments. There are many methods in voice, but my favorite teaching method is Vaccai. Its a simple and thorough method that explores intervalic reading and understanding theory, as well as classical breath training. I also teach vocal improvisation with jazz standards and allow my students to research about other styles and genres that they are curious about. The most important thing is they keep a good vocal health practice that allows them to be versatile and creative. Singing is such a personal and meditative instrument that the more time you spend understanding your voice the more you will be able to achieve. I enjoy working at the begining to intermediate level for children as I get to introduce the earliest piano musical skills and I usually spend thirty minutes on teaching piano practice methods and thirty minutes on music theory skills. Currently, I use books like Dozen a Day, Scales and Hanon to build good finger techniques, John Thompson and John W.Schaum books for songs and theory preparation. For adults, I would use books related to adult beginning stages in piano and music theory. Read More
