My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I have been consistently teaching students since 2018. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I am an encouraging teacher, but I help my students set realistic goals (and stretch goals!) that keep them motivated to progress in their musicianship. How our lessons progress really depends on the student in question. If they would like to pursue competitions, I am well equipped to help. For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. The methods that I normally use are the Alfred Basic Piano Library, and the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures. I also use technique books such as Fingerpower, Hanon, and Czerny. I always incorporate Music Theory in my lessons as well as improvisation. i am familiar with the Royal Conservatory of Music technical requirements and find them necessary to any student wanting to become proficient at piano/keyboard playing. I use may online worksheets for theory, improvisation and fun repertoire as well. i am open to the needs of the student but also have a structured method of teaching so that all aspects of the music learning process is followed.
