I have been consistently involved in teaching students, both in my home studio as private instructor and as a part of the program Learning On Stage in which I perform and share different Latin-American music styles to teach students from high school and middle school. Vocally, I believe good basic technique is the same for every genre of music. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on learning to breathe and support your sound correctly as well as maintain good posture, rid your body of unwanted tensions, etc.; musical styles beyond that basic technique change only in small stylistic ways, and I am knowledgeable in quite a variety of most musical styles. As natural as a singing voice can be it still takes effort and hard work to maintain your sound or keep yourself relevant. I self taught myself a lot. Through this self teaching I was able to help others go through the same process a little easier. I spent hours if not shut ins (days of just soaking and singing) editing and correcting my tone. Developing and finding your voice (confidence in yourself), knowing your sound/ style, and finally finding your rhythm to where even if there is no beat you can become one and be the beat is the basics before any singer can bloom. While in school, I had the opportunity to student teach at LaGuardia High School. I loved working with the students there. I worked with students in private lessons as well as in choirs. My biggest goals for teaching are to provide a student with a comfortable space to be vulnerable, allow them that space to promote learning, and create a plan for students that allows them to achieve their personal goals while growing their love and passion for music. At the end of the day, lessons are work, but music is meant to be enjoyable and something they can be passionate about.
