I was always able to sing. I started piano in the 5th grade. I played trumpet in high school and made all state band 3 years in a row. I attended college at Houston Baptist University where I received a full scholarship to study music. Once I graduated I was immediately hired to do a national tour which was followed by 5 others. I began teaching and working with children about 10 years ago in a public school setting. I've worked with children in various settings including the YMCA, local Sports Teams, and youth programs at several churches. I've taught music for 6 years and have enjoyed it since. I like to encourage those students who enjoy music as much as I do, to get involved in other music programs in the community, at school, or even at church, that way their gifts can be shared with others. I ask a lot of questions and encourage them to ask questions and give feedback, and I try to make the environment comfortable so they feel comfortable doing so. I teach based on understanding. When I teach, I dont force a certain technique or method on students, but rather I teach what is best suited for them. On top of that, I always motivate my students with adequate goals. Most importantly, I will make sure my students enjoy music in the process of learning. Preschool students: I use everything in my hands to help them to love music and enjoy it. We dance, we jump, sometimes we color ... anything that helps them learn. My class basically consists in developing in the little ones curiosity and musical taste. Through musical games and songs, the students will understand the basics of music theory, tone and rhythm.
