I am a fast paced, energetic, positive-reinforcement kind of teacher. I like lessons to be fun and productive no matter the ability level. It is my belief that EVERYONE can sing, you just have to practice. A typical lesson involves a 10-15 minute warm-up, depending on the length of the lesson. That is followed by working on the songs that a student has prepared for the week. For students who may have personalized needs, there are accompanying tools that can be of use, and I try to use those as necessary. Beginning with any student at any level, I first try to engage with them on a purely audio level. By interacting with their instrument from a simply aural perspective, I can get a sense of how they respond to sound; for example, how they attempt to find patterns on a keyboard, or how responsive they are to consonance against dissonance. During my time there, I also self-recorded and produced my first three full length albums as well as Elizabeth Boaz's album "Forgiving the Rain." As a trumpet player, I was a member of the Seattle Chinese Orchestra for three years and the Seattle-based band Dismal Thinkings. Following graduation, I moved to Petaluma to quarantine, teach music lessons, and work on musical projects with my duo Honey Disposition.
