My philosophy is that the lessons should be personalised around the students needs and interests.  For voice, I work on vocal technique with my students, and on how to apply it to whatever style they like.  For piano, I like to work with the Alfred's piano books, gradually adding repertoire that matches their ability level, and can yet be fun. I have a few Faber and Alfred books for ideas of repertoire, but I also like to just let the student chose what songs they'd like to play, so that it's more interesting for the both of us! My approach to singing comes from the Bel Canto school of singing. Bel Canto is Italian for beautiful singing and while I was trained this way, I believe in meeting students at their vocal level and build from there. I dont subscribe to the one size fits all method because we all perceive our voices very differently. Throughout my university years, I had some teachers who got frustrated when they instructed me to sing a certain way that I could not understand and I never want my students to be confused or feel misunderstood during our lessons.
