My method is to find common ground with the student so that they can relax. Relaxation, emotional and physical, is very important for singing. After that, I teach breath support, vowels, style and languages. I speak 5 Western languages and some Mandarin Chinese. I enjoy showing how to use vowels within technique to be consistent and keep your voice healthy. I think how I teach is holistic, fun, and supportive. I began teaching voice in college both privately and in group settings. In addition, I directed and taught music for two theater productions. I enjoy helping each student reach their unique goals as an individual. I am trained as an opera singer and I specialize in classical/operatic and musical theater repertoire. Additionally, I am trained in music theory, ear training, Eurhythmics, acting, Alexander technique, vocal pedagogy, French, Italian, German, and Greek so I can offer insight on any of these topics. I have previously taught piano and voice to children when I was in high school. In college, I worked with Tammy Hensrud and Craig Schulman (who has starred in Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera). In turn, I gave voice lessons to fellow students within my drama program who wanted to further develop their singing techniques. The listening skills are important because if the student enjoys what (s)he is hearing, (s)he will be more motivated to practice.
