During our lessons we will address correct breathing and posture and different vocalises that will strengthen and free up the voice, giving the student more power, more range and more freedom/agility. Singing with freedom is a different path for each singer, and I will prescribe different exercises for each area of the voice we are trying to improve. You will also be assigned songs: some classical, some musical theater and then whatever genre is your favorite. Read More

I helped students successfully prepare auditions for college, musical theatre productions, all-state choir, summer music programs, and more. I taught students in a wide variety of musical styles and skill levels. I was also able to sing in two professional choirs from 2010-2019. For the last 7 years, in addition to teaching private piano and voice lessons in my private studio, I also served as the choir director/music theory/music appreciation instructor at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, a small state-funded boarding high school for gifted students. My Grandmother inspired me to play piano. My church taught me to sing. In high school I was involved in band and choir and was selected to tour Europe with a college group. To this day I work with foreign exchange students. In college I continued my musical studies although I majored in Public Relations. This allowed me me to take classes such as oral interpretation and work in radio/TV which enhanced my performing skills. Read More

My teaching experience began when I completed my degree in Music Education 10 years ago. Since that time I have been teaching private lessons to students of all ages. As a teacher, I believe it is my job to meet my students where they are in their development, and prescribe exercises, repertoire, and information that will help the student with each of their individual needs and goals. I use classical technique as a foundation for healthy singing, but absolutely love performing and teaching many other genres of music. Read More

For beginners, I will start lessons by assisting them to become familiar with their instrument and to learn all the names of the various parts of the instrument. In terms of lessons material, I will guide students when and where necessary and do have traditional modalities of approaching lessons that I will employ if I feel the student is lacking direction (i.e. Read More

For children, we'll begin with aiding the discovery of musical instinct. For adults, I start by becoming familiar with what kind of music got them curious. By looking at all its parts we can begin learning the fundementals and getting to a point of confidence in a solo or ensemble setting. I recommend filming rehearsals to be able to self-critique at home. I also recommend critical listening to the music we're working on or any other music the student may be listening to. Read More
