I have a great "ear" which is my best asset. I encourage each student to progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by maintaining a stress free environment. Upon graduating I traveled throughout Europe and the USA teaching and performing for both churches and productions both classical and musical theatre. Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it. Personally, I started playing music because I loved exploring and learning more about the music I I was already listening to--and I desperately wanted to learn how I could create my own sounds. I give each student the freedom to learn and prove to themselves just how wonderful they can be. I sit down with each student and parent, if the parent is coming with them, in the beginning and discuss with them the importance of practice and what it does to help with the learning process. I first began teaching in high school at the suggestion of my own piano teacher. I loved the experience from the start - few things are more rewarding than watching a student develop their musical passion and skill from lesson to lesson. Aside from private lessons, I also interned with the Peabody Children's Chorus in MD. Under the instruction of the brilliant choirmaster Doreen Falby, I had the privilege of working with a group of motivated students aged 8-12 where we studied everything from conducting to vocal technique and put on concerts twice a year. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. The student will be given work that is reasonable to practice once a day for at least 10-20 minutes a day. Read More
