Instruments: Piano Voice

My voice and piano studio teaching had it genesis in 1985 with a private home studio in Chicago. Since then, I have taught in church programs (choral students working on solo voice) as well as in the university setting (student teaching and TA voice class support). I have also led seminars in Group Voice and Cantor Training for Church and Liturgy and Worship. Wherever you are at, we accept, as a dual-team, and then, collectively design a way to help you achieve what it is you desire. Read More

My teaching experience started my freshman year of college, with one girl who was working with me on a Community Theatre production, and her mother wanted me to start teaching her some voice lessons. Since then, I've had enough interest from other local students that I've been able to open up my own voice studio, and have rented out a private studio space for the past 2 Summers I've been home from College. Teaching voice is something that I believe requires highly personalized lesson plans, and so there are books for which to acquire basic theory, note-reading, and sight-singing, but usually, lessons must be repertoire based, and conceptual. Students usually have an idea of certain songs they would like to learn, and I believe it is very important to enable them to sing what they like to sing. However, I will also suggest repertoire that they are unfamiliar with, or initially uncomfortable with to broaden their musical knowledge and appreciation, and also to address certain skill sets. I have been called the female Jack Black by many of my former and current students. So I do believe you could say that I am fun, I make things comfortable and provide a great environment to learn, but then I can also truly be serious and strict when it comes to practicing and performing. Expectations: Practice DAILY. Be ready for each lesson. Be willing to communicate with me about things you do not understand. Read More

The goal for each lesson is for the student to notice their progress and develop a passion for music.  Student input is very important to me.  In my lessons I strive to make the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions and make comments about their own progress.  I am encouraging yet firm and expect a lot from my students.  My lessons are fun and informative, and they help me convey my love of music!  Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

I teach vocal students from ages 6-adult. We work on breathing techniques, music theory, interpretation, and style. I like students to sing their favorite styles. I also expose them to songs that I feel would be appropriate for their growth. We also work on performance and auditions! I like to incorporate a lot of music theory and note reading into my teaching as well. Everyone is at a different level so I cater lessons to fit the needs of each student. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
