I have always had a passion to help others and to teach. I started to volunteer at an elementary school and help teach vocals for their musical theatre performance they were working on. It was a great experience to teach a group setting and see what each person needed and what would work for them to help them learn. I believe every mind and thus every student is different. So especially when teaching something inherently creative like music, I almost always have to be inventive with my pedagogy. Every student has their own interests, learning style, and goals, and as an educator, listening to and really HEARING those is just step 1. If the student is comfortable, we move on to the passaggio (where our voices crack). We will work slowly to ensure flexibility, healthy habits and good release. Exercising this part of our voice is the gateway to the famous high notes everyone wants to learn to sing.
