For beginning children students I typically start with Hal Leonard or a similar reputable music book.  Once the students has a grasp of the fundamentals we will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their age and skill level.  For adult students, I find out what the student is interested in and create a lesson plan that is fun and challenging no matter their skill level. I always talk to my students about the physical function of the vocal instrument in the first few lessons, especially if the student has not had voice lessons in the past. My goal is to uncover each student's natural voice, as free from strain and technical difficulties as possible.
