While I aim to help students become their best, I ultimately want them to have fun above all else. I believe progress looks different for everyone, and I am very patient and happy to go over something more than once. Learning an instrument is more of a marathon than a sprint in my eyes, and I hope to guide each student on their own musical path. Lessons can range anywhere from simply learning about the instrument itself, going over foundational music theory(notes, chords, scales, intervals, and so on), learning site reading and tablature and the benefits of both. For my teaching style, I always do my best to encourage. I love the technical side of music. I can never get enough of it. But obviously, some people are not like that and that is where my passion and emotion for music come in. Everyone has their idea of what music is. But I love to help people explore not what is, but what could be. Music-making is my focus. Read More

I have a few books I've become fond of (such as Faber, Schirmer, Hal Leonard, etc), but I have gone months at a time using no books at all -- keeping students happy. Not everyone prefers the same approach, and while I can offer expert guidance for those who aren't sure what to do, one of my main goals is simply to experiment with students, an attitude I try to foster in them too: You can work and work on some particular piece or song, but if you did it for extrinsic purposes . . . I am a unique teacher, I believe in allowing the student to create their idea of what a vocal coach looks and sounds like, yet only the student can put their effort into making each lesson a success! I can motivate the student into putting forth that effort. Choosing a song, style and performance based on where their comfort level is, working with that, and yet challenging them along the way to be open to trying new ideas. Read More

I teach them how to read notes, how to play the flute, how to properly use their body and fingers when playing and very important how to use diaphragmatic breathing. When I work with voice students I try first to get understanding of what the student is interested in. Every student who wants to learn or improve singing is different and likes different stiles of music and that is why my voice teaching method depends on the students knowledge , abilities, range and etc. Read More

For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. Our first lesson for beginning students I'm going to teach the warm up. How you set up your voice to sing is important for vocal health and will teach breath control. For more advance students I want to hear what they are struggling with and what they want to improve. For most students it's belt range and pitch accuracy. I'll give them a new warm up that will focus on expanding what they are looking to expand. Read More
