I began teaching private lessons during my summers off from college, just a few students at a time. Since beginning my teaching career, my focus has shifted slightly to group piano classes, while still teaching privately after school. I have been a student of private instruction since the age of three, and my experiences in my private lessons have shaped the way I structure my own lessons for students. I firmly believe that my students need to not only study solo repertoire, but also that they spend some time every week focusing on technical exercises to solidify their musical foundation. Read More

I studied dance at the age of 6. My mom bought a piano for herself to learn to play. I would go to the piano and try to make up songs that I could dance to, which then lead me to take piano lessons for 15 years. Committment, joy, and passion are the keys to learning and growing as a music student. I enjoy teaching all styles, as well having students learn to arrange and express their own style within the piece they are learning. Read More

Noone is perfect, not even the teacher. The connections I make with my students also helps me guide them during instruction, and to think about and choose material they also might like. All of my students choose personal musical projects to work on and when they are ready to present I give them the opportunity to do so. One aspect of private lessons that is frequently missed is the importance of things ear training and music theory. Read More

I started playing acoustic folk styles in 1962 and added 60's rock and more as time went on. I joined my first rock band in 1965 and have now played all styles of rock, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, jazz, and contemporary Christian and worship music. I also play and teach bass and other stringed fretted instruments, keyboards, and drums and percussion. I began teaching private music lessons in 1968 and began teaching professionally in 1989 at AZ Bible College. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For piano students who have already been playing and/or taking lessons, I usually start from where they left off with their former teacher. I then gently guide them to the Faber books or continue using the series they're comfortable with, depending on the needs of the student. I find that consistency helps encourage the student, giving them confidence that they can be successful. For my voice students, I usually start them with proper breathing techniques. Read More

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Choral Education, and spend my days engulfed in choral music playing for numerous choirs at my high school.
