I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and loves showing that making music can be both rewarding and fun! I have a degree in Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University, and I am on my last semester to get my Master's in Orchestral Conducting from Illinois State University. I have sung in numerous choir, played jazz and classical trumpet all through college, and have a burning interest in Music Theory and how it relates to playing. Read More

I encourage regular lesson attendance and practice at home. Consistency is key when learning and developing a new skill set especially when concerning younger students. I feel that the balance of establishing a strong technical foundation and fostering a love for music is fundamental in fostering passion and enthusiasm for new students. I try and find out what the student is interested in and tailor each lesson to their specific needs. Read More

I started teaching voice while at Millikin University. My first job teaching upon graduating was at the Schaumburg Academy of Music, where I taught children through adults. Other schools I taught at include Dancenter North in Libertyville, and Montessori of Hoffman Estates. While residing in the Bay Area, I grew my online studio as well as taught at Sterling West and at the non profit Boldly Me! I LOVE teaching every variety of music imaginable, from opera to hard rock. Learning music (and the necessary skills to facilitate that music) that each individual student is passionate has been the focus of my teaching style. I love helping students play music they never though they'd be able to play, find other styles they love, and even compose new music. Broadening musical horizons and discovering new music seems to be the best motivator for students continue to hone their craft to be the best it can be. Read More

My teaching style is basically giving personalized voice lessons to each student according to their goals and musical interests. I will customize each lesson according to this common ground. I usually will spend 50% of the lesson in vocal technique and the other 50% applying the vocal technique to the repertoire the student is working on. Sometimes this will vary according to the specific needs of the student. Their might be for example a deadline to prepare for an audition, or to perform in a recording, so we might warm up the voice in that case and go directly to working on the repertoire. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

My lessons are about technique and applying the technique to repertoire. I spend about a third of the lesson on specific technique work and I always encourage students to bring in their own material that we can work on as well. I of course always have songs to suggest and I cater to each individual student's needs. If you need a high song, I'll find a high one. If you need a pop song, I'll find a pop song. Read More

New students should already be able to read music well enough to pick out a melody on a keyboard/piano. I believe in giving the student considerable freedom in choosing music that will not only benefit them technically, but inspire them. The first few lessons are spent in assessing the students voice: range, voice type, technical strengths and weaknesses, etc. The new student is also encouraged to bring in some music they already know. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
