My mother influenced my life as a musician. In 1969 she encouraged me to audition for the Newark Boys Chorus. I auditioned. I was accepted and sang in choir-school for three years, singing music from Renaissance to R&B. In 1980 I received a BM and MMT from Oberlin Conservatory. At Oberlin I met three great teachers who encouraged me to sing professionally. I pursued the career! Performance highlights are: The Metropolitan Opera, The Met Museum, The Wigmore Hall and The NY Philharmonic. Read More

I approach every lesson with every student with a focus on patience, empathy, dedication to excellence for myself and my student, and a big dose of fun! For younger students and for beginners, I spend a good amount of time on laying out the basics of the instrument, the foundational techniques of playing, basic music theory, and discussions that allow the student to tell me what influences them and what they most want to achieve in music. I believe it is important for voice and piano students to have a basic understanding of music theory, as well as technique. I pull material from a variety of sources. For piano, I typically use Bastien and/ or Hal Leonard. For voice, I build a build upon the "legit" classical foundation of voice training (Similar to a dancer learning ballet first, before other forms of dance) Following that, I cultivate my students to find their own particular genre of vocal style. For children who are beginning Piano students, I start with Piano Adventures - The Basic Piano Method: Primer Level. If the opportunity arises for a performance or a recital, we will either choose material from the book or from music that is appropriate for their learning level. I also teach different methods of piano playing, such as reading chord charts, so that students can play their favorite tunes and sing along. Read More

I'm a passionate professional in the music business. I graduated from Monmouth University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. I'm trained in a classical background, but have developed skills in multiple genres over the years. I've performed around the country with various musicians and have gained much stage experience and performance knowledge along the way. I've had the opportunity to perform the Gramercy Theater in NYC, Paramount Theater in Asbury Park, NJ, and others as piano accompaniment, lead vocals and on bass guitar. Read More

I also like to do rhythm exercises with my younger students for example I will clap a rhythm and have them clap it back to me. I will assign repertoire that is appropriate for their level. An example of this could be the little mermaid song 'Part of Your World'. If I am teaching an intermediate student I will do warm ups up and down the octaves on vowels e-eh-ah-oh-ooh, I will also do staccato exercises as well as teaching breathing techniques. Read More
