My teaching style is nurturing and supportive. Music is an emotional art, regardless of the instrument you are performing. I like to encourage my students to think about the music they are playing and to think about the music they hear every single day out in the world. I like my students to be musically adventurous and open to new ideas and new styles. I love when my students ask questions and begin to understand the why and how of the way music, and their instrument, works. Read More

If you wish to educate, you must inspire first. Each student is encouraged to proceed at a pace that is suited to their aptitude, goals, schedule and drive. Positive acknowlegement of achievements, clear communication and demonstration of techniques, opportunities to play with others at a similar level of growth and an atmosphere of musical community are key to the progress of my students. For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical. Read More

I have performed with The Ritz, Jazz Harp Trio and Vocal Summit featuring Bobby McFerrin. I earned a Bachelor Music Education degree from Berklee College of Music and subsequently served as professor and Assistant Chair of the Voice Department during the final 10 years of my tenure there. I'm currently offering private instruction in contemporary singing, scat improvisation and my "instru-vocal" approach to trap set drumming. I'm interested in teaching all levels from novice to professional. Read More

I am a goal setter and overachiever so I like to work with the student to set goals that will not be discouraging. I believe that learning how to play an instrument/sing with others in an ensemble setting helps reinforce what we work on in the lesson. As a multi-instrumentalist, I enjoy finding songs we can eventually play together while implementing technique and structure. I’ve done everything from covers, to song writing, to singing operatic repertoire in 5 different languages. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I've been teaching over 25 years, both voice and piano. No one size fits all. I teach each individual as an individual. We start with the basics of the musical instrument. I use Method books which guides the student through musical concepts gradually. The student practices during the week so that we can move on to the next lesson. With voice I work on proper production of tone and breath support. Read More

I'm an exuberant and competent professional musician and instructor who loves working with students and sharing the love and discipline of my instruments. I hold vocal performance degrees from Pacific Lutheran University and Boston University. Most recently I was a 2022 Laffont District winner and named the 2022 Ted Stevens Young Alaskan Artist recital winner. I enjoy singing roles such as Fiordiligi from Cos fan tutte, and Ma Zegner from Missy Mazzoli's Proving Up, both which I sang with Boston University Opera Institute. Read More
