For beginner piano students, I have found the Faber Piano Adventures books to be quite successful. For other lessons, I try to tailor them to each student and find materials that fit with their unique music goals. I have drawn from a variety of music resources, as well as my own knowledge, to help students learn through their own unique way of thinking. I believe it is important to build off of the skills that students already have, and to find ways to support them as they grow in other areas. Read More

I've been teaching over 25 years, both voice and piano. No one size fits all. I teach each individual as an individual. We start with the basics of the musical instrument. I use Method books which guides the student through musical concepts gradually. The student practices during the week so that we can move on to the next lesson. With voice I work on proper production of tone and breath support. Read More

My experience goes back to High School when I would give casual tutoring sessions to friends. In college I started teaching lessons in theory and composing/songwriting. I like to encourage students to get on a practicing schedule especially for younger students as it helps them get more interested in the instrument. I like to start with modern pop/rock styles to get the student interested in the instrument then mix in Jazz so we can talk about more complex theory and also mix in a little classical so we can talk about technique and form. I like to build units or goals for each student when private teaching . It helps me and the student know what needs to be worked on. I also tend to be a visual instructor , meaning I like to use tricks to teach students different vocal technique. Although I do not mind accommodating to a students needs if their instruction is to be taught differently. I want to make lessons as fun and educational as possible and I expect student to put in their input to what they want to learn. Read More

I have been teaching over 8 years. I had the privilege to teach at a very young age at my teachers’ request. I tutored students who needed extra help, or had failed their exams. I taught oboe, piano, solfege, harmony and ear training. At the time, I didn’t know how much responsibility I was taking on. But, after seeing all of them pass, I realized I could do more than help them succeed in one class. Read More
