Music is something that takes time to understand. It clicks in some students, but most kids take a while to develop musically. Patience is the most pronounced characteristic in my teaching style. It's easy to tell the student what they're doing wrong and what to correct, but that doesn't mean it's the most effective practice. Some kids will get nervous and make the same mistake over and over again. Beginning students will learn the basic major scales, then minor scales. They will learn songs applying to the "scale of study," for that day, with the student's input as well. Once an understanding of chords has developed, we will experiment with changing the bass note in the chord, and play with how it effects the sound of the whole chord. This enables the student to start playing songs right away. As the student progresses I will give them solo music pieces as well, songs and exudes to use for performance.
