Hello folks, my name is Andy. I am a 23-year-old musician with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University. I am predominantly a bass guitarist, with an affinity towards jazz, psychedelic rock, alternative, metal, prog, and sometimes just straight up pop. ive began teaching three years ago to my little cousins. after a couple weeks their abilities improved significantly. my aunt,impressed at their progress, refered me to some of her friends, and i began teaching adults as well as children. when a student is learning, i like to focus on exactly what is interesting to them, and show themthe concept to the point of understanding. if the student isnt having fun,then nobody wins! i really enjoy seeing mystudents compose their own original songs and eventually gain the confidence to perform. im always looking for any students who wish to better their understanding of music regardless of ability or age. Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. Some time in 2006 I was asked by the director to become his assistant and began taking on groups of my own. In 2007 I also joined ECMM as a sales associate and apprentice luthier in their shop, selling and working on guitars and other instruments. It was unfortunate that ECMM closed in 2009 after 33 years. Working at East Coast was a great experience for me and something I will always cherish. What I loved most about the ROA program was that as I transitioned from a student to a teacher, I adopted the same teaching style as my mentor: let the students choose what they want to learn and help them to learn and perfect it. Every student is different, so the first thing I like to do is get to know them as a musician, where they are on their instrument, and what they wish to accomplish in lessons. I want to keep the student comfortable with what they are working on and at the same time find ways to go beyond the comfort zone. I am accomplished in sight-reading, ear training, improvisation, performing, transposing, designing, tuning, engineering, mixing, mastering, and trouble shooting in varied settings. I am a veteran.
