I have performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra since 2018 and also the assistant principal cellist of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. In addition, I have played with the Richmond Symphony, the Ocala Symphony, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Northwest Florida Ballet, Sewanee Summer Festival Symphony, and many other orchestras and ensembles. For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. I started teaching myself guitar when I was 10. Later, in high-school, my teacher frustrated with my lack of practicing came up with an idea to light a fire under me. They suggested I teach a younger classmate. Not only did I finally start practicing, but I fell in love with teaching as well.
