I primarily use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books for all of my beginner and intermediate students, and for adult students, I supplement them with Gabriel Koeppen's Cello Method books. For more advanced students, I will work with their current repertoire to determine what skills they can further develop by assigning them new and more challenging pieces or etudes (such as Popper or Piatti) based on their needs. I assign all of my students age and level-appropriate pieces at regular intervals in addition to their books or etudes, ranging from short and simple pieces to highly technical showpieces or concertos. Nothing makes me happier than seeing students come back the next week excited and confident about what their learning and the time they put into their practice. I Encourage all students to set realistic goals and aim to create an environment that inspires motivation and interest where it can be found. Learning to play music should never feel like a Job and I will always be here to adapt to any teaching style a student may need to succeed. Read More

Some of my core values are quality over quantity, consistency, breaking down obstacles into their smallest chunks, gamifying technical and musical challenges, and developing a young musician's ear for error detection. It's important to me that my approach is holistic and doesn't just improve students in their technique, but in their musicality and collaborative skills, so I aim to meet every student where they are at and talk through the "whys" of everything. I have played cello since age 4 and piano since age 7. I holds a B.M. in cello performance and composition from Ithaca College, as well as a Masters in cello performance from Boston University. Currently earning a Performance Studies Certificate in Contemporary Classical Music from Boston Conservatory under Rhonda Rider, I perform with the contemporary ensemble there, as well as freelance performing in the greater Boston area. I am also an active composer and performer of contemporary music. Read More

For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies. Read More

I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109! I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups. I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

Teaching should never revolve around the notion that "perfection" is the ultimate" goal. This way of thinking not only provides my students with a false sense of hope, but more importantly is simply unattainable. In the modern age of playing, too often do I feel students losing sight of what is most important: the music. While good intonation and rhythm are certainly important, what I hope to instill in each of my students is a level of understanding far beyond learning the "notes" on the page. Read More
