I started out teaching when I moved to Chicago and have since enjoyed working with students of different ages with different levels of experience. Whether students pick up the cello with goals to pursue a career in music or decide to start playing as a hobby, I am passionate about working together to achieve their goals and to enjoy the process along the way. I have been teaching for about 5 years, but have had incredible teaching oppurtunities in this small window of time. I often helped my college professor with her highschool students, andI had the oppurtunity to teach for a semester as an Adjunct at Central College in Pella, IA. After only a month of studying with me, my highschool student there advanced four chairs in the Iowa Allstates, and I see it as one of my greatest accomplishments as a teacher. Read More

For the child and adult alike I begin with different types of instuctional material. Since instuctional materials use similar but somewhat different ways of presenting concepts, I use the the series that will allow the student to grasp and master the fundamentals. Suzuki instructional books and supplemented by traditional methodology for reading the various clefs: treble, alto, tenor, and bass. In addition, historical and theoretical subjects are introduced appropriately to keep the student engaged no matter their current abilities. We also have at least two public performances a year at a venue which has a high quality grand piano so the students can get used to the notion that every piano will be different and performing scales before playing their chosen repertoire will help them immensely. I developed my skills as a result of my upbringing. My mother was a teacher who specialized in encouraging me to live up to my most cherished dreams.
